With all the accusations made against movie producer Harvey Weinstein recently, his wife Georgina Chapman has decided to end their 10-year marriage. Weinstein, 65, has been accused by many female stars of sexual abuse. Divorce for the California couple appears imminent.
The 41-year-old fashion designer told a prominent celebrity magazine she was leaving her husband after initially indicating that she was supporting him. She asked the media to respect her privacy and said her main priority was looking after her and Weinstein’s young children, ages 7 and 4. Weinstein has a long list of accusers and has taken a leave from his company, The Weinstein Co.
Chapman, along with business partner Keren Craig, own the sought-after brand Marchesa. Some are saying the decision to leave Weinstein was in part to save the brand. Social media sites were calling for a boycott of the Marchesa brand after allegations against Weinstein came to light. In a statement made through her lawyer, Chapman said her heart breaks for the women who suffered tremendous pain because of her husband’s unforgivable actions.
When one spouse chooses to leave another, for whatever reasons, it is never an easy situation. Emotions are running high and can include everything from sadness to anger to grief. Most often there are other people who are affected by the separation, like children, as in this case.
A compassionate California attorney experienced in family law can help his or her client caught up in an emotionally fraught divorce situation, even one that is in the public eye such as this situation. An attorney will listen to the client’s expression of his or her needs and feelings. With those in mind, the lawyer will make suggestions as to what plan of action may best fit the unique circumstances presented.
